Charity crackers snapped up!
"How Many Crackers Can You Eat?’ and ‘Sandy Flags!’ were just two of the many charity stalls organised and manned by
year eight
pupils. The lunchtime market was the culmination of an ICT Campaign, where the pupils used their computer skills to hold a charity event in aid of Save the Children. ICT was used in every stage of the market - to plan, cost, design and make goods for the stalls - from conception to the end.
“We made bubble maps on the computer and put on all our ideas for times, stalls and much more,” said a pupil. “Then we chose the best stalls, prepared ourselves for what we needed and the costs.”
Everything from official letters sent out to posters advertising the event around school, had been ICT-based.
“The event raised £204.75 for the children’s charity - our best yet!” said Mrs Loughnan, Head of Department.

BT Partners in Education
BT have introduced Partners in Communication - a quality development award scheme that will facilitate and support school transformation. The scheme is currently in the pilot phase. The audit framework enables schools to better understand their current approach to communication, highlighting successes and areas where there is a need for improvement. Schools apply and join the scheme online, where they can submit evidence and experiences to detail their self-assessment in reference to the criteria. Their self-assessment and supporting evidence
is then moderated by a specialist team from Brunel University. There are three awards: bronze, silver and gold. The primary aim of the pilot is to test the bronze and silver level criteria. It is hoped that all the pilot schools continue on to achieve the gold award. For more info, click here or contact Mrs Loughnan.
