Aims of the ICT and Business department at Avonbourne 
Through our teaching, we want to:-
• Create and foster the enjoyment of ICT and stimulate curiosity about the technology available.
• Give a sound grounding in ICT and Business knowledge that will provide a solid foundation for pupils in their use of ICT and business skills in their daily lives
• Provide awareness of the use of ICT and Business skills in the workplace and its importance in society today
• Give pupils the ability to become independent learners so that as new ICT software and hardware becomes available they are confident about attempting to use it.
• Inject pupils with the vision to use ICT creatively.
• Provide pupils with the confidence to implement the skills required to problem solve in a Business environment when using ICT.
Objectives of ICT and Business at Avonbourne
Through the study of ICT and Business, pupils will be able to:
• Gain a good knowledge of the software and hardware packages available
• Gain an understanding of how to use the software and hardware packages available
• Research information from a wide range of sources.
• Describe how information researched is relevant to their needs.
• Write and record information in an organised manner.
• Assess what the appropriate ICT solution is to an ICT problem.
• Assess what the appropriate Business solution is to a Business problem.
• Explain why they chose a particular ICT or business solution.
• Transfer their knowledge and ICT and Business skills to solving different scenarios.
• Communicate their ideas to others using an appropriate medium.

Women in Business
The notice asked for all Legal Eagles to come to the WRL room on Thursday 15th November. The reason was to find out more about legal professions and routes into them.
As part of Enterprise week Miss Helliwell organised a visit from Humphries Kirk solicitors. Stephanie Macphearson and Margaret Baker gave a presentation to the pupils and hosted a question and answer session. it was brilliant and all the pupils agreed that it helped them to understand what the job roles really are and how they can train to become a legal professional. |
Make your Mark Challenge
On the first day of Enterprise week the ICT and Business department lept into action with the Make your Mark challenge.
Twenty year 9 pupils and 4 members of the department worked throughout the day to complete the Challenge. One team went through to the regional final that was held in Bracknall. They did very well but were pipped at the post at the last minute. Thanks to the girls that took part, hope next years challengers are just as good. |
