Equipping young people for effective participation in the community.
Our aim is to inspire our students to become informed, critical and active citizens in both their local and global communities. Building confidence in order to give our students enough knowledge to have conviction, to take action and to make a difference.
At Avonbourne School, Citizenship is taught to all students throughout key stage 3 and key stage 4. Students receive a 35 minute Citizenship lesson once a week delivered to them through the PDP programme. Some students are taught by their form tutors, others, by another member of staff. All students are supported in their learning with dedicated Citizenship resources.
A variety of learning experiences occur beyond the classroom including debates, 'World Days' (click here for details of some of them) and themed weeks where there is a particular focus on a specific global citizenship issue.
