KS3    Schemes of work                               
Year 7
Key skills. Pupils are taught painting, mixing and use of different techniques. Primary and secondary and Hot and cold colours are introduced. Pencil grades ad effects are introduced with skills being taught. Analytical skills are developed through analysis of their own and others work as well as target setting and assessment exercises.
Elements
An introduction into the four elements is followed by the ‘elements’ homework
Pupils are taken through the design process, completing a series of designs that explore the design possibilities of the four elements. Printing techniques are explained with pupils producing their own selection of prints based on their chosen design.
Artist study ‘Van Gogh’
Literacy task, to discuss and analyse the work of Van Gogh through discussion and written work. Spellings and ability to analyse/problem solve is assessed in sketchbooks.
Year8
Shoe drawings . Pupils are taught drawing, use of pencils and addition of tone with the aim of producing realistic sculptures.
Aboriginal Art
Literacy task, to analyse Aboriginal Art work through discussion and written work. Spellings and ability to analyse/problem solve is assessed in sketchbooks.
Sculptures. Pupils are taught design and construction techniques. Basing sculpture designs on sea life, birds and insects they will work in small groups to produce one sculpture using newspaper. Tissue paper is then added to create colour and texture.
Year9
Pottery cakes and desserts
Pupils are taught a range of different clay building techniques/skills. Mind maps, written question and answer sheets and written assessments help to re-enforce new information being covered. Spellings and key words are displayed permanently in the classroom. Lesson specific vocabulary is presented with objectives on the board. Spellings and key words are re-capped during the plenary. End of project written assessments allow us to assess understanding, spelling, and analytical skills.
Design work
Pupils are taught the process of analysing and refining design work. They are encouraged to think creatively and discuss ideas to solve problems. Spellings and key words are displayed permanently in the classroom. Lesson specific vocabulary is presented with objectives on the board. Spellings and key words are re-capped during the plenary. End of project written assessments allow us to assess understanding, spelling, and analytical skills.
Portraits leading to mask painting
Pupils are taught Drawing, measuring, realistic application of tone and later, painting, mixing and use of different techniques. Spellings and key words are displayed permanently in the classroom. Lesson specific vocabulary is presented with objectives on the board. Spellings and key words are re-capped during the plenary. End of project written assessments allow us to assess understanding, spelling, and analytical skills.
