Developing the quality of teaching and learning at Avonbourne School
A Thinking School is one which uses a range of thinking and learning skills to create a diverse environment that is enjoyable and
successful. At Avonbourne we are implementing a number of strategies to create a thinking community which allows everyone to work independently and collaboratively to realise their potential. Through this we will develop skills to become 21st Century thinkers and entrepreneurial citizens.
Avonbourne has recently succeeded in being accredited as a 'Thinking School' by the Cognitive Education Centre of Exeter University and is the first non-selective secondary school in the country to do so. The status reflects that both staff and students at Avonbourne are learning how to think reflectively, critically and creatively, and employing these skills and techniques in the co-construction of a meaningful curriculum and within other associated activities.
