Learning at Avonbourne reflects the most recent educational research about how students learn most effectively, allowing all students of whatever ability every opportunity to reach their potential. We recognise that students learn in different ways and a range of teaching styles are utilised. Recent foci have been on developing thinking skills, entrepreneurial learning and embedding Assessment for Learning across the curriculum. Your daughter will have a tutor to monitor their progress and in Year 9, 10 and 11, students are assigned a mentor to support them through the option and GCSE process.
Our curriculum is led by dedicated, experienced staff who are able to offer a wide range of courses. In Years 7, 8 and 9 student follow a broad range of courses in line with the National Curriculum, and then in Years 10 and 11 they are given the opportunity to specialise in the subjects they most enjoy and those which will be relevant for their futue career. For the more able students some AS level courses are offered. We aim to meet the needs of employers by providing vocationally based courses including Business, Health and Social Care, Retail and Travel and Tourism. In partnership with other providers we offer a range of college based courses and opportunities for extended work placements.
This element of choice means students are interested and remain motivated throughout the chosen course.
