Slave Sale October 2009

Raising Money and Awareness for 'Jeans for Genes'

8 mini companies made a bid to the Dragon’s Den, made up of business people. They worked out the costings for their idea, with the aim of raising money for social enterprise.

The wining bidders’ idea was to sell teachers to students, and for the students to use them as slaves!  Lauren Biddle, Rachel Sawyer and Ellie Maynard worked hard to convince teachers and to publicise the idea. The teachers were sold as willing slaves during Lunchtime Entertainments, with the money going towards Jeans for Genes. The whole school raised money for this charity, and the total came in at over £1,000. The slave sale raised £250 towards this, with the rest being made up as payments from the girls so they could wear their jeans to school.

What of the slaves? 14 staff were sold. They will be cleaning shoes, running errands, doing homework etc. Mrs Pannel, Head of Geography was bought by by Georgina Dawson, Pippa O’Brien, Hartley Blank and Elise Ballington in year 8. She has agreed to do manicures for the girls, and also to buy them a meal at McDonalds! (There are high-level negotiations taking place as to who pays)! One of the buyers said ‘It’s going to be great to boss the teachers around for a change’
