Mini Companies

Mini Companies are designed to allow girls to decide on a venture, and make a profit for charity or provide a service for the community

The Spotlight Team are responsible for a variety of activities. Every 'Super-Friday' they organise and run 'Lunchtime Ents', where staff and students perform for an appreciative audience! They also provide technical support for all concerts and presentations, and hire themselves out to other mini-companies, such as the 'Slave Sellers'! (see below).

Slave-sale: a group of year 7 girls formed a mini-company with the idea of selling teachers as slaves! They competed against other min-companies in front of a panel of business-people, and came first! They will be selling the teachers to the highest bidders, and the winning girls will be able to ask them to do anything reasonable to fulfill their obligation as their slave. (They only get 30 minutes)!

I Listen is the company that runs the school radio. This broadcasts before school and at break-time every day. They run competitions, play music, interview members of the community, train radio presenters from other year groups, publicise school events etc. Their mission, entertain, inform and educate. (I think the BBC pinched the slogan)!

The HFC (Healthy Food company). This company sells healthy food after school on a Super-Friday. They buy all the ingredients, plan the display, price the goods and sell for a profit, which goes to charity. Budding entrepreneurs all!

Young Enterprise Mini Companies
Each group meets on a different night at school with an external business advisor.  They are all entered into the local competition with other companies that is taking place on 17th March at Parkstone Grammar School. If they get through this heat, they will go through to the next round.

Iconic: Iconic are selling wrist bands around school that they have sourced/ordered. One of the bands is ‘What Goes Around Comes Around’!

Arthouse Zimbabwe
The Arthouse Zimbabwe mini company celebrates its first Year by raising over £900!
Many congratulations to girls in year 8 and 11 who sold animals and other items (made from recycled metals) to help HIV positive people in Zimbabwe. The girls involved have all given up their own time after school to sell the products. The money raised has been for Arthouse Zimbabwe, a group of people living In Zimbabwe, mainly living with HIV and AIDS. They make many different arts and artefacts from recycled materials, such as, empty drink cans, scrap metal, wire, tin, beads, wood and sacks etc. Staff and students bought these amazing items from lizards and elephants to Christmas decorations to help to raise over £900.
What has been done to help?
The year 9 and 10 girls have come together to form a mini company, selling different arts and artefacts around school, to pupils, teachers and visitors!
The money has been banked and sent back to Zimbabwe, to help the people suffering from HIV and AIDS. The money will help pay for medical care, set-up new jobs and pay for food. It is also being put towards building rooms onto a house to provide a place to stay for victims of the deadly virus.
Facts about AIDs and the HIV virus
AIDS is a massive killer, 4 in 10 people have AIDS and 1 person dies from AIDS every minute! As a result, in 2010 more than 1 in 5 children will be orphaned.
Members impress Leading Teachers at a Business and Enterprise Conference
Members of the Arthouse Zimbabwe group made presentation to the Directors of Specialism of Business colleges across the South West of England. Stephanie Tofangsazan, Laura Evans, Patricia Mathiotte, Molly Brown, Lydia Sheehan, Daniella Lowe, Gaby Bowe Peckham, Ellie Plaistow Trapaud, Sophie Martin and Francesca McKenzie outlined their achievements and role in this exciting enterprising activity.   All of their efforts and enthusiasm were extremely well received by the conference members who were impressed with their achievements.
Global Entrepreneurship Week – design a logo for Arthouse Zimbabwe competition
After an innovative idea by one of the Arthouse Zimbabwe members was put into practice, year 7, 8 and 9 spent Geography lessons and their own time designing a logo for the mini company. The Competition came with some fantastic prizes: an Ipod shuffle for the winner and chocolates for the runners up in each Year group. The logos were judged and prizes were awarded in the Christmas assembly. The logo will be used on all further promotional materials for the company.
The future for Arthouse Zimbabwe
We plan on continuing to raise money and sell the products from Zimbabwe for this excellent cause. If you feel that you can help or support, or have a company or event where we can sell our items please contact Mrs. Pannell (Geography department). Many thanks!
