What is Fairtrade?
When you buy a fair trade product it means more money goes to the producers in poorer countries. It means…
- Paying farmers a guaranteed price for their goods so they can plan for the future
- Supporting farmers so they can learn new skills & not harm the environment
- A fair price is one that allows farmers to feed and shelter their families, educate their children, buy the medicines they need and so on.
- A fair trade premium pays for projects i.e. schools to be built or clean water to be supplied to a village pump
Avonbourne took part in Fair Trade Fortnight with Citizenship lessons about Fair Trade and a creative competition for all year groups. The challenge was to produce an imaginative piece of marketing for Fair trade products. Fair Trade Chocolatey prizes were also on offer for the best entries!
