Avonbourne School is developing a range of new courses that contribute to the school's international outlook including Mandarin Chinese.

CTID), a local Chinese language and business support service for schools and companies in the Bournemouth and Poole area.
Native Chinese teacher Mrs Ruiyan Tan is offering 1 hour Mandarin Chinese lessons each week to a group of Year 7 girls. The lessons are planned to introduce the Chinese language and culture. Topics that will be covered include;
- greetings
- writing names in Chinese
- daily expressions
- counting
- Chinese schools
- class manners
- the Beijing Olympics
- the Dragon Boat Festival
- using chopsticks
- Chinese food
- paper folding
- calligraphy
- Chinese songs
Mrs Tan also plans to develop a pen friend scheme between Avonbourne and Nanhai No.1 Middle School in China. The students of the Chinese class will be the first group to start ‘international conversations’ with students in China. More details can be found in the ‘
